I hope that everyone had a productive summer. (But enough time to enjoy the great weather!)
Our next meeting is out of the ordinary and will be at a private residence so space is limited and an RSVP is required.
When you reply I will forward the exact location. It proves to be an excellent learning event as I am sure many of you are not familiar with custom designing a keyboard.
Please respond early.
Date: Sept 25th 7:30pm
Location: Between Hurontario and Mavis, south of Brittania in Mississauga
Topic: Wayne Ferguson, will discuss the design and construction of keyboards.
Steinbuhler & Company manufactures reduced-size piano keyboards (with narrower keys, grand/upright) for pianists with small hands. These keyboards provide many benefits to small-handed pianists, including wider interval stretch, better ergonomics in playing, less hand strain, increased power of playing and better tone
Wayne will showcase two DS-5.5 keyboards (octave width 7/8 of conventional size) and actions built for a Yamaha C2 and Schimmel K189 grand pianos. The design and construction of the keyboards, in particular the brace and key turn built for ensuring adequate key strength and the key-levelling plates, will be examined. The piano measurements that are necessary for custom making a keyboard will be briefly described.
Don’t miss this if you can make it.
All the best from the OGPT,
